5 Ways to Have a Healthy Start to 2018

When you think about New Years Resolutions, most people would say they have ‘work out more’ or ‘eat healthier’ on their lists. Well, here are 5 ways to help you jump into a healthier 2018!

1. Get a Workout Plan

Whether this consists of you continuing with the same routine of working out or getting a brand new gym membership, working out has proven to give you more energy throughout the day. Although sometimes we may not want to go to the gym when sometimes it seems like everyone around you is watching you struggle on the machines, it is a great habit to get into. This doesn’t have to mean that you spend hours at the gym every day. Start out small and work your way up into spending more time working out or pushing yourself harder. Even if that means going for 30 minutes after work or in between errands!

2. Organize

I don’t know about you, but for me staying organized makes me feel way more put together and productive. I recently just bought a new planner so that I can plan out my week and have a set schedule each day. This way I feel more productive with what I do. Also taking the time to organize a drawer or your room can make a huge difference. It is refreshing to move things around and switch things up once in a while!

3. Create a Routine

Like I mentioned before, getting a planner to make a routine can help with productivity. Creating a routine in your life can help set off new healthy habits. For example, if you schedule to workout 3 times a week, eventually it will become a habit. Or if you schedule to sit down and read for an hour a day, you might realize that it makes you feel more imaginative and knowledgable! Routines may become boring at times so don’t feel afraid to switch it up! Just remember to do what makes you feel your best!

4. Take Time for Yourself

This is an important one. It is so hard to remember to take time for yourself every now and then. Especially if you have a busy schedule and are balancing multiple things. Being a college student, I know how hard this can be. I’ve realized that on weekdays I like to take a half hour to sit on my bed, turn on my twinkle lights, light a candle, and cozy in with my Bible or a good book. This can be so refreshing for your soul and your mind (especially when you’ve been studying all day).

5. Eat Healthy

Eating healthy can be difficult, I know. One way I like to get my greens is to make smoothies! In the morning, I like to blend up a smoothie and take it to go to drink on my drive to the gym! You can also slowly substitute different ingredients for healthier options. Unsweetened applesauce instead of butter, avocado on your sandwich instead of cheese or mayonnaise, skim milk instead of whole milk or heavy cream ,etc. You can find more ingredient substitutions here.

Applying all of these tips to your daily/weekly routine can increase happiness and energy levels while decreasing anxiety and stress levels. My hope is that you can use these tips to create a healthier life that you want. Why wait for tomorrow? Start today!
